Are there alternative ways to develop rural villages in the New Territories? What is the role of Art in building up a community?
Since 2014, Emptyscape has been engaged in the “Village Beautification Project” initiated by a local villager, KK. From the pathway leading to the village, walls along the path, idled public space in the village, to the houses owned by villagers, artwork flourished on all surfaces. In early 2015, volunteers came to Ping Che to renovate and paint for the Uncle Ping’s Home. Voltra from Japan also visited for a week to participate in this event.
We are currently collaborating with other local artists in preparing for the beautification for other village houses. The flower pathway is still blooming. We hope more visitors can come and engage in beautifying the Ping Che, setting an example to how space and communities can engage with Arts.
